Can Cannabis Oils Help Your Sore Throat?

Image
This article originally appeared on Cannabis.net and was republished with permission. Cannabis has compounds that are antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. This makes it fit to fight off bacterial strep throat infections. Various studies have shown that cannabis products – especially cannabis oils – when used, can improve the antibacterial effects of antibiotics used to treat symptoms of strep throat. What is strep? A strep throat is a bacterial infection that causes pain, itching, and some other forms of irritation in the throat. All of these symptoms become more intense when you swallow. Photo by 5432action / Getty Images In contrast to sore throats, which can be caused by both viral infections and bacterial infections, a sore throat can only be induced by bacterial pathogens. The type of strep throat caused by bacteria is streptococcal pharyngitis. It’s not that common as most sore throats are caused by viral infections. Symptoms of a sore throat can be treated with antibiotics ...

GOP lawmakers officially submit cannabis legalization law

By Maureen Meehan Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) officially puts forward her cannabis legalization plan, the State Reform Act, endorsed by at least half a dozen Republicans, which will legalize cannabis essentially at the federal level “in accordance with” state law Determine what level of cannabis reform or legalization each state wants to regulate or not. “ Bill highlights: Federally decriminalizes cannabis and fully submits to state powers over bans and commercial regulations Regulates cannabis products such as alcohol products Introduces a federal excise tax of 3% on these products to fund law enforcement and small business programs. Ensures the continuation of government medical cannabis programs and patient access while enabling the development of new medical research and products Protect our veterans by making sure they will not face federal discrimination or lose their VA health care for following their doctor’s advice on medicinal cannabis use Protects children and young adul...

Cannabis freak-outs: why they happen and how to prevent them

Image
People tend to have two reactions when it comes to marijuana use: either they find it very relaxing, or they don’t. Those belonging to the latter group accuse the plant of causing a lot of paranoia and fear, making them feel too “on their minds” or expecting people on the street to point out their wrongdoing Clues. Bad highs are almost like meltdowns. There are moments when the consumer’s body becomes stressful, paranoid, and even scary. Although these episodes are temporary, they still feel awful and can turn many people off from weed. The only way to get through a bad high is to wait and see. RELATED: 7 Ways to Control a Bad High Photo by DANNY G via Unsplash These anecdotes leave cannabis in an interesting place. The same plant can have exactly opposite effects in different people, all due to genetics, experience, and disposition for the drug. Marijuana creates effects by interacting with the cannabinoid receptors in our body, which are located in different areas such as our br...

Marijuana Tariffs – The Future of Interstate Cannabis Trade and Social Justice Mandates?

Image
Many states have mandates to protect businesses with social justice and economic empowerment, so tariffs are the answer? In the next few years, will you go to a Massachusetts or Florida pharmacy and see Oregon Grown White Widow or Emerald Triangle Blue Dream, but at three times the price of locally sourced and grown cannabis from that state? Don’t laugh, but marijuana tariffs may be the future. The idea came about during a show titled “It’s Probably Legal to Ship Marijuana Across State Borders Due to the Dormant Trade Clause in the Constitution,” attended by Professor Mikos of Vanderbilt University and Steven Hoffman, director of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission . During one of the segments, Mr. Hoffman said voters agreed to a mandate that said he must protect local businesses and social marijuana businesses in the state of Massachusetts. (Paraphrased). Curt Dalton of Cannabis.net then asked, “Well, if the social equity grower in California is struggling with oversupply...

Channel Islands fill out over 2,000 medical cannabis prescriptions

In the English Channel that separates the United Kingdom (UK) and France, the Channel Islands are way ahead when it comes to medicinal cannabis – with over 2,000 prescriptions. The Channel Islands are paving the way for a new economic sector thanks to a looser approach than the mainland. Under the UK medical cannabis regime, general practitioners (GPs) are generally unable to routinely prescribe medical cannabis through the National Health Service (NHS). Only people with severe persistent epilepsy and other rare diseases are eligible, and often parents don’t have time to wait. Infinite bureaucratic nonsense makes it almost impossible to get a prescription. For example, two years after the UK change in law, only 10 NHS prescriptions had been issued. But things are different on the Channel Islands. The islands are ruled by two crown dependencies: the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey. (The Isle of Man, near Ireland, is the Crown’s third dependency.) They are known as ha...

4 stoner stereotypes we’ll still hear in 2021

We may have made some huge strides since Cheech & Chong, but there are still some stereotypes of stoners that should really go up in smoke. With cannabis legal in ten countries, research has shown that the problem of lingering stereotypes has nothing to do with legalization. In fact, legalization doesn’t reduce stereotypes at all, according to a study in visual communication. So what is there? Well, mostly media. Without going into detail about the study’s findings, the biggest finding was that the news machine (read: the conservative news machine) publishes stories about cannabis that are based on stereotypes, especially things like criminal activity. What is important is that they emphasize how charged images reinforce a strong reliance on stereotypes. Both the media and Hollywood have a responsibility to uphold cannabis ethically, but they’re playing it pretty quick and easy right now. If you identify as a stoner or you grew up in your 90s, you know what I’m talking about. Ti...
